Turangawaewae Healthy Kai
By Caine Arama-Perese
Today we had a healthy shared lunch. We made wraps in Room 5. We put in all kinds of salad stuff like lettuce and tomatoes and carrot and mayonnaise. It was delicious! But there was some more food like pizza, chop suey and club sandwiches. Everything was amazing. Mrs Edwards, Mr Choromanski and Miss K’s brothers came. They all enjoyed the food that we made. We loved it. I had two buddies called Jack and Nopera. They were cool.

You will never guess what happened today! All of Turangawaewae got a delicious shared lunch. At the shared lunch most people went up for thirds. Me and my buddy went up to get chop suey and we both did not like it. I loved the healthy pizzas and it was so nutritious. I got for pieces of watermelon it was just so good and I loved it – it was so juicy. Did you know that our Principal Mr Choromanski was there it was so cool. Even the office lady came! The best part about it was that it was healthy. I stayed fuller for longer. We all ate on the field. I loved the shard lunch – you would have too!

Today we had a shared lunch. Children from Rooms 1 – 5 made something to share. At lunch time everyone came together to share with each other. It was a healthy kai to eat. Mrs Rihari and Room 5 made wraps to eat. Miss Robinson had bought some watermelon –three containers full! Miss K made chop suey – that was amazing and delicious. Mrs van Beek had made sandwiches – simple but healthy. Miss Boon made pizza that was a great idea. Before the older children ate they had to go get their buddies and help them with their food. After we got them seated we stayed with them – then we got to eat. Our shared lunch was nice and relaxing because we had it on the bottom field under the trees.

I loved the shared lunch completely because the food was really nice and it was like a big get together time. To be honest I really enjoyed it. Room 1 made healthy pizzas. Room 2 did Chop Suey. Room 3 did watermelon. Room 4 did club sandwiches and Room 5 did tortilla wraps. My buddies were Ronni and Camelia. I got Ronni’s food first because she was the youngest. Then I got Camelia’s food and then mine. My favourite food was the watermelon. Our shared lunch was only for Turangawaewae which was good. Our teacher said we could bring something to sit on if we wanted to. There was actually quite a few mats. I really, really, really loved it!

Today we had a healthy shared lunch on the field. We made healthy wraps. We put lettuce, carrots, ham, tomato, cheese and mayonnaise in them. We made two each and it was fun. Room 1 made pizza and it was yum! Room 2 made Chop Suey and Room 3 cut up watermelon and Room 4 made club sandwiches. They were a bit stale but I still ate it without the crust. We invited Mr Choromanski, Whaea Donna and Mrs Edwards. It was all yummy.

On Wednesday the 25th of March the Turangawaewae PLG had a healthy kai ora. Room 1 made healthy pizza. Room 2 made chop suey. Room 3 had watermelon. Room 4 made club sandwiches and Room 5 mae wraps. Room 5 had to clean up the tables and then some people had to help take the foodto the tables under the shade. Classes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 came. Mrs Rihari was talking to us about the rules, when you touch something you have to eat it. First Room 3 had to go and get their food and we had to help them get their food. Then we had t take our Room 4 buddy. Room 2 had to take them Room 1 buddies. We were waiting and waiting and finally Room 2 and Room 5 got to eat. People weren’t walking and eating. The people that were there were Mr Choromanski, Mrs Edwards, Miss K and Miss K’s brother (who was called Malosi), my beautiful teacher Mrs Rihari, Mrs van Beek, Miss Boon, Miss Robinson, Miss Gotberg, Miss Sanchez and the best for last – Miss Wilson. After we ate then the bell rang for lunchtime. Everybody went to play and that was our healthy kai ora.

This afternoon we were working on our delicious, nutritious kai. We were making wraps. We used tortillas with fresh lettuce, cheese, carrots, tomatoes and Mayo. We had it on the field. We had three of our wonderful American teachers with us. There was Miss Gotberg, Miss Wilson and Miss Sanchez. We had some wraps, pizza, watermelon, chop suey and club sandwiches. We had a very very lovely time. We loved every thing that we ate. We were very hungry. We sat down and ate by the goal post on the top field. We got to know our buddies more and they got to eat some brain food. I was pleased with my buddy’s behaviour. We will be strong and healthy!

Turangawaewae Shared Healthy Kai.

At 11.00 o’clock after morning tea we made our healthy wraps. We started off by putting our tortilla down. We put a line of low fat mayo on the middle, put lettuce on, then some cheese, ham, another layer of lettuce. Last but not least we were folding the tortilla. It was very tricky for some, but it’s like folding a sleeping bag. It took us one hour to get everything down. At 12.00 we took some tables, blankets and lava lavas down to set up. When we had finished we went down the field and sat under the trees. We sat in our lines and waited for the youngest to go first. There was a variety to choose from. When it was me and my buddy’s turn to go up he said “I don’t want watermelon but I want a wrap!” I said “If you want a wrap you have to have a piece of watermelon”. When we finished that food we had some chop suey, club sandwiches and pizza. Then some of the American teachers came down. Miss Sanchez, Miss Gotberg and of course Miss Wilson … my lovely teacher. Soon Mr Choromanski came to our shared healthy kai and he had a wrap. I asked him “Was that healthy wrap delcious?” and his said “It’s nutritious”. We took a plate up to Whaea Donna. We also fed others who had no lunch. I loved this healthy nutritious kai because of the sharing and caring that was going on. I saw people taking care of their buddies. Even the children in the new entrant class were looking after each other. The day was about trying healthy food and not eating junk food.
