This year has
marked a major milestone in the vision that we have set for our school. The
highlights this year have included; the induction of our Head Boy
and Head Girl, the alignment of our Junior and Senior school, and our
learner-led conferences. The survey comments gathered from the community
reassured us about the value of having whanua input and support, as a critical
part of our children’s success.
This experience made our students think deeply about goals set while
they shared their successes and next learning steps.
Student
achievement is always our main focus.
The staff have embarked in quality professional development through
establishing Professional Learning Groups, and outside facilitators were
sourced. Lead teachers travelled
as far as Queenstown to gain new teaching practices which they shared with
other staff members. Part of the
senior management team attended the International Principal’s Conference, in
Singapore, to gain knowledge on international teaching practices.
Our community
celebrated; Maori Language Week, The Evergreens Concert for Senior Citizens,
Skoolstars, school sporting events, and more. Our Art Exhibition showcased our learner’s talents, which
our teachers harvested and displayed. The positive overwhelming support from
our community is often difficult to contain in our school hall.
I wish all our
Year 6 learners, who will be moving on to Intermediate school, the very best as
they continue on their pathway of learning. Remember the values we have
imparted to you, which will continue to shape your character as a person, as
you progress through life. I would like to thank the Staff for their
commitment, energy and support.
As we draw near
to the close of another year, I wish you all a blessed Christmas, and best
wishes for 2010.

achieve more”

Pomaria School is a very special learning community that I am proud to be a part of. It is a privilege to work at this school alongside caring, dedicated and hardworking professionals.
We are blessed with a vibrant, culturally rich and progressively involved community. To be able to share and celebrate the successes but not settle for anything less and therefore strive together to achieve so much more for the education and good of our children is what our whole learning community is all about.
Sue Wilson
Assistant Principal
I come from a background of varied teaching experiences in Hamilton, South Taranaki and South Auckland. I have taught mainly in Yr 5-8 classes and have held Senior Management positions in a number of schools.
I have worked as a Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour across Primary, Intermediate and High Schools in the Henderson area.
I am in education because I feel passionate about learning and working alongside Learners to develop their enquirying minds and to help them realise their potential.
I have chosen to work at Pomaria because of the innovative structure of the school but more importantly because of the Cornerstone Values Programme. Values teaching has always been an integral part of my own teaching philosophy.
The committment of the staff to the development of the Learners in their care is impressive and I am excited to be part of a progressive forward thinking team.

Room 6 (New Entrant)
Hi. I'm Miss Mobsby. I enjoy teaching the New Entrants. This level brings great challenges but the amazing results at the end are rewarding. Children are responsive and keen to learn as well.
I like teaching at Pomaria School because of the diversity of cultures. The children are 'down to earth'. We have wonderful support from the families, B.O.T. and staff members.
Donna Abraham
Matuauranga
Room 7 (Year 5 & 6)
Hi my name is Donna Abraham. I am happily marriage with a beautiful 6 year old daughter and a one year old son.
I am originally from the North shore but now live locally in Henderson, so I am proud to be part of the Pomaria Community. Pomaria is home because home is where the heart is and Pomaria certainly has heart, spirit and talent.
I have enjoyed the challenge of working in a year5/6 class with the new curriculum and the introduction of the Integrated Inquiry learning approach. Everyday is an eventful one with many new learning opportunities.
I have 15+ years teaching experience, not to say it gets any easier, it only gets better! I started my teaching career in Otara and have worked in Mangere, Manurewa and Mt Roskill.
I also trained as a teacher of the Deaf and worked with Deaf, full signing students at Kelston Deaf Education Centre, Van Asch Deaf Education Centre in Christchurch and also in Timaru & Ashburton. So Room 17 has incorporated New Sign Language into the programme with morning Karakia, spelling, singing, basic words and simple sentences.
Learning is a journey and it is life long. I strive for excellence and
endeavour to take challenges head on. This is also what I hope to leave with my students.
Room 7's motto this year has been to be the best that we can be.
Thank you to all the parents who have supported your children's learning from home with homework and at school by coming in to help with reading, dance items, trips and camp. I couldn't have done it without you.
Together we can make a difference.

Kia ora koutou katoa. Talofa lava.
Ko Kath Aiavao toku ingoa.
I am of Maori and Samoan descent, happily married for 16 years and blessed with 3 beautiful sons.
What I love most about being a teacher is that everyday brings about new adventures, challenges, discoveries and achievements. It’s those ‘magical’ moments that make teaching inspiring and rewarding. I get to have fun learning alongside my students and play a vital part in their lifelong journey ahead. I encourage student-ownership in learning and endeavour to inspire my learners to strive towards their aspirations no matter how big or small. “Every child is born a leader in his/her own right, but you must nurture and feed the seed in order for it to grow strong and tall.”
It is a ‘shared partnership’ between school/teacher-parents-students that is paramount to the success of our learners.
I feel privileged and proud to be part of the dedicated Pomaria Team and Whanau. I can honestly say there is no other school I’d want to be in… I love it just where I am right now!
